all of this information you’ve compiled and researched is just terrific… i’m especially thrilled w/the teether information because our lil guys just starting to teeth… it breaks your heart to see them uncomfortable, and it’s nice to know you’ve done your homework as a parent (someone shoulda warned us about all the HOMEWORK) haha…

just wanted to say thank you!

My son received the Gerber Orbiteether as a gift but I wasn’t sure what it is made of. I emailed Gerber and they said, “The Gerber OrbiTeether is made of polypropylene with an overlay of PVE (PolyVinyl Ethylene).” Is PVE safe for babies? I can’t find any information on it.

    thanks

I have contacted Parent toys (Battat company) about baby rattles that my children put in ther mouthes like teethers. In December I was told they went completely phthalate free a few years ago. This spring I called again to find out exactly what these toys were made of. The person I talked with was very helpful and took the time to find out more information. She called me back a few days later saying that the company does not use PVC or BPA in any of their products. I want to believe this and feel safe buying more of their products, but it sounds to good to be true. Do you know anything about the company and their baby toys?

Does anyone know anything about the Fisher Price Miracles and Milestones Penguin Water Teether? I’m wary of this product because it’s made in China, despite the fact that another website said it was BPA free. It may be BPA free but I’m wondering if it’s pthalate and lead free as well? Believe it or not I can’t find any of the safe teethers listed on this website at my local Target, Walmart or Babies R Us- frustrating!

Thanks for all the great teethers (among many other things!) available on this site. I am looking at getting the Baby Buddy Baby’s 1st Toothbrush made of silicone for my son. Kids seem to like it and it is PVC/BPA free. Thought you might want to look into carrying it on your site… if you do, I’d buy it from you! 🙂

Has anyone heard anything about any of these First Years products: First Keys, Soft Teething Beads, Stacking Cups? I have been unable to find any information on them. My daughter absolutely loves to chew on these toys, and I’m afraid these products are made with harmful substances like BPA or phthalate.

    Laura,
I was just googling the same thing. My child loves the Castle Toys Inc Teething Ball, and I was also concerned about it. I just called Castle Toys office in CA and asked what it was made of. The representative said it was made of plastic and vinyl. She also said it passed ASTM guidelines and specifically mentioned that it had no PVC or phthalates. If you have any further concerns, you may want to call the same number I called. It is 818-765-5362. I would encourage you to call if you have any specific questions.

    Cheers!

I’ve been waiting for 2 months to hear back from Bright Starts about their Bright Starts™ Teether Pals (the duck, model #8476), to see whether its chewable parts are BPA & Phthalate Free. Does anyone know anything about this product?

    Hi Rayna,

We haven’t done any work with Infantino ourselves, but recently found a fantastic blog post by Safbaby.com. They explain that all Infantino items (except for their rubber duck) are free of PVC and phthalates. And we’ve heard from several others sources that monitor product safety and quality carefully (third party lead testing, etc.) – so even though they’re made in China, it should be fine.

I had contacted Bright Starts (Kids II) and have been getting the run-around from their reps as to whether the Animal Sounds Fun teether book contains BPA, Phthalates, and PVC. I finally received the following e-mail from the consumer relations manager, after being pretty demanding:

    Christin,

I hope that I will be able to provide you with an answer to your question. With the use of phthalates, BPA and PVC’s, there are strict guidelines as to its usage. The Animal Sounds Fun book does contain these materials. With its containment, the product has met and passed the guideline set forth by the government in being below the minimal percentage allowed.

If you have any additional questions or concerns feel free to direct them towards me.

So, I personally have decided not to use any of their products. I don’t trust their company any more. I don’t know if all their products contain PVC, BPA, and phthalates, but I am assuming because of the very evasive answers, they probably do. Hope this helps.

    Hello,
My 7 month old loves chewing on the little rings that were attached (with stuffed animals) to the toy gym on her Chicco Lullaby play yard. I have bought her a variety of safe teethers, including Sophie the Giraffe, several wooden rings, Nuby teethers, but she does not like any of them. She has to have her plastic rings. Do you know if these are BPA free? I highly doubt it since I’m sure they are not meant for teething. Or do you have any suggestions on BPA free teething rings that are tiny enough that she might be interested in them? Thank you!

I am wondering the same thing…I bought the Bright Starts rings, and I fear they are not safe.
