The DARK Act = Shelter for GMOs

Take action now to stop the DARK Act so each state can continue making their own mandates on food labeling, including the right to label GMO's. #StoptheDARKActThe “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2014” sounds so good, doesn't it? The name seems to offer peace of mind, maybe even providing a respite from our intense and constant food label reading at the grocery store. Could it be that our local politicians might just have our best interest at heart this time?

Unfortunately, NO. Here's the real deal. This bill was penned by Congressman Mike Pompeo from our home state of Kansas. It's better known as the DARK Act (Denying Americans the Right to Know Act) because it's a blatant and direct obstruction to our GMO (genetically modified organism) labeling efforts. Mr. Pompeo aims to prevent states from making their own mandates on food labeling. Shockingly, the DARK Act also seeks to prevent the FDA itself from mandating any GMO labeling. And it doesn't stop there. This gem of a bill also says we can't force companies that use GMO ingredients to stop using the word “natural” on their product labels.

In our view, the goal here is clear. This is just another way to prevent people from knowing what's in their food, to hamper our efforts to avoid GMOs, and to prevent us from opposing GMOs by killing the GMO labeling grassroots movement.

Now it's time for us to get loud and be heard. It's time to STOP THE DARK ACT.

Take Action to Stop the DARK Act Now

This week, it's critical to take action and tell your local representatives to withhold their support of the “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2014.” We know what we want, and we want to know what's in our food. RIGHT?!

Need to know who your Senators and Representatives are and how to contact them? Visit WhoIsMyRepresentative.com to find out.

Be sure to sign this petition as well. It'll be key in our continued fight for mandatory GMO labeling by proving the size and demand of our movement.
